As for me, Yangon is labeled “home of tea house” not only for the amazing tea but also for the snacks or even meals at different tea houses. I love the tea shops so much that I go there almost every day during my trip. And I am fortunate in having a friend who also loves to go wherever I want to go in my hometown. One of my favorite tea shop is Orient, situated at upper 46th Street in Botathaung township. There are plenty of choices, and the foods are delicious, at least for me. A confession has to be made here: as the teacup seems smaller, or au contraire, my stomach is getting bigger; I always have to order 2 cups of tea in every shop, lol!!!
Zawgyi House takes advantage of its marvelous location with indoors and outdoors seating and this is a place where I usually drink coffee. I am sure there are delicious garlic bread or pizza at the shop but I am more than pleased with the traditional snacks that my friend dearly bought for me from the street vendors.
I suppose nan is great for breakfast and fried prata is an exciting alternative. I had them at Pwint Thit San near Rose Hill Hospital in Bahan Township, if I remember the name correctly. Although it is great going to restaurant, it is more fun drinking tea, eating snacks at the tea shops and it is always a sure bet for me.
