พุ่มพวง ดวงจันทร์ or The Moon

My dear friend Paja is a fan of late Amy Winehouse for not only her songs but also for the infamous beehive and full eye makeup. She must have heard the news about her favorite singer death by now and saddened the loss of gifted musician. Well I really feel for her especially after watching this particular Thai movie, namely” พุ่มพวง or The Moon”, subtitled in English of course. It is about the life of Thai megastar พุ่มพวง ดวงจันทร์ Pumpuang Duangjan, nickname ผึ้ง (bee), who passed away in 1992 at the age of 31. She was an ordinary girl, grew up in the sugar cane filed in Suphanburi, one of the central provinces in Thailand. Would you believe that she can’t read and yet she learns by heart and can sing almost 100 songs by the age of 12? The illiteracy hasn’t hindered her a bit while trying to be successful in life. Her personal life tells another story: a life of Tears and Sorrow. She has been called “ราชินีลูกทุ่ง” the Queen of Thai Country music (เพลงลูกทุ่ง), music reflecting everyday life of the rural poor and is considered as Thailand’s most famous and loved singer. She died from a non-contagious auto-immune disease and her funeral was held first in Bangkok , then in Wat Tapkradan, Suphanburi province. According to Wiki “an estimated 200,000 people turned up to pay their last respects, even the Thai King himself, Bhumibol Adulyadej came to pay his respects; for a peasant-born woman this was unheard of and has not been repeated”.  I know we all have to die eventually but I still wish both stars lived long enough to tell a tale of their lives.

Anticipated Flicks

Yes, I like movies and watch almost every new flick available here. My must watch movie of this week was the latest one from Transformers sequel. Some argue that those films are not logical but, as the movie lover, I don’t simply care. I was thoroughly entertained and I am clearly not a hater. The computer-animated effects are dazzling and much better than those in the previous films. The visual effects in this Transformers 3, Dark of the Moon 3D film are phenomenal and yet the most memorable object for me, please don’t laugh, is the Hermes Birkin green ostrich bag from one particular scene, lol! All in all, I had a great time watching this flick and am very excited about watching the following upcoming movies in 3D theaters and in IMAX theater.

Puss in Boots

The Smurfs

The Adventures of Tin Tin

The Three Musketeers

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part II

Mission Impossible, Ghost Protocol

Extra:  Eminem featuring Pink, Won't Back Down

King Naresuan

My other half is quite a fan of this movie and last week he got the DVDs for us to watch during the weekday.  The reason he bought them is that the Part 3 start showing from 31st March and he wanted us to refresh our memory. It was quite challenging for me to enjoy the film while reading the Thai caption mostly in royal language. I was kind of discouraged for my ability to understand the language and I managed to get through this somehow. On 31st March, I tried to buy the tickets for Part 3 but it turned out that we had to wait for a day or two since the English subtitled version has not available yet. Of course we watched that yesterday and it was in deed entertaining. Since it is not so hard to find the trailers in youtube, I have decided to link those in this post. By the way, the movie is about King Naresuan the Great, and you can find out more about the movie here and the King here. I almost forgot, there will be part 4 but they have not announced the release date yet.

*Afterthought, I wish we could film the life, the struggle, and the tragedy of one of our heros, General Aung San  for the generation who doesn't aware of the fact that "Independence has high price".

Part II

I Love You Phillip Morris

This is just another film I love of funny and daring, I might say, Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor. I like how an accident change a man's life and let him be his true self: being gay. The rest of the story? You can find out here.

Basil chicken and Harry Potter ticket sales

This one dish is like satisfaction guaranteed food in Thailand; when you don’t know exactly what you want to have for lunch or dinner, you just order Chicken or meat of your choice with basil. I normally cook them at home since it is easy, and more importantly, I can add any vegetables of my choice in that dish.

Preparation? Mince garlic, chili pepper, chop up onions, cut the long beans, baby corn and clean and pick the “HOLY BASIL” leaves from the stem.  Fry the minced garlic, chili and onion in oil until they turn brown and add ground chicken and stir them for a minute or two. During the process, add oyster sauce, fish sauce and no sugar for me. Then start adding the vegetables, and finally add holy basil leaves. I always serve this dish with fried egg, and fish sauce.

By the way, tickets for Harry Potter 7 Part 1 are available @ Paragon Cineplex since last week. It will start showing from Thursday, 18th November in Thailand, and you can get a small poster if you buy them now.

Dream, Dream, Dream

Yesterday, my significant other and me went to Cineplex to watch either “Despicable me” or “Inception”. It was an easy choice for me, as I prefer fiction than comedy. At some point, we reached to a decision that we could watch “Despicable me” next time. It is all about dream. I mean the movie “INCEPTION”: “Stealing valuable secrets from deep within the subconscious during the dream state when the mind is at its most vulnerable”. Come on, everybody dream, but not like this crazy good. At any rate, I love the idea, the actress, and everything about this movie.

I think I am going to be broke due to my moviegoing habit. I saw the trailer for SALT, and STEP UP 3 yesterday and have decided not to miss them in theatre: SALT because of Angie and STEP UP 3 by reason of SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE finalists.

You might wonder what is that. Well, it is just cheddar cheese wrapped in gyoza skin. Since I hesitate to eat cheddar cheese because of my weight issue, they have been in my fridge for at least six months. I can’t control myself and ended up eating like that.

The Twilight Saga

After reading this post, I wanted to admit that I am a Twilight fan though I am no longer adolescent or be Tint Tint's age for several years.  I tried to buy the tickets for Eclipse through Internet first. Most of the seats are not available, so I decided to go and buy at the theatre this afternoon. Unfortunately, the majority of the seats in the back rows have already booked or bought to the last show at the normal theatres. I have no choice but to queue at Krungsri IMAX theatre. At one point, I was indecisive due to price difference (200 Baht Vs 500 Baht/seat): the stingy part of me saying “no”, and the spendthrift part of me telling me “ why not, the ticket price is still cheaper than other country”. What am I today, stingy or spendthrift? I’d rather let the tickets tell its own story. Please don’t disappoint me, “Eclipse”, like “Knight and day” did.

Just us two

It is official; I am a Sex and the City addict. I have watched the whole series a couple of times and I can’t get enough of it. I am glad that I am not the only one who is in love with Carrie’s stoop, the shoes, and the Big Apple (though I have never been there).

Last Sunday, I had a movie date with my significant other. There is nothing to think twice as the Girls are back in town, SATC 2. I love the fact that they are fighting against the traditional roles of marriage, motherhood and bring up the menopause issue. After all, sometimes you just have to get away with the girls.

My beloved hubby saying about those girls’ fabulous fashion during the movie touches me. I am really grateful for not only accompanying me to the big screen, but also appreciating what I love. I proudly told him it is thanks to Patricia Field, a costume designer, a stylist, and a fashion designer.

Another much anticipated movie for me would be from Twilight Saga: Eclipse. I still remember how my other half felt sleepy while watching New Moon last year. Well, this time I will not drag him to the theatre unless he wants to. I am sure about which movie he can’t wait to watch: Toy Story III.

Sex and the City 2 - Le Film

I do love you Richard, but I love me more.
—Samantha Jones
Voici une autre série que j'aime regarder: Sex and the City.
