I was about to go to the nearby market that morning and notice that beautiful dawn from the veranda. Without doubt, I rushed myself into the bedroom to get the camera and took that beautiful scene. There, the origin of the following picture and I am still thrilled to witness the color contrast and yet artistic dawn.
Noodles, noodles, noodles, they never bore me with their different textures, colors, and tastes. I have been eating them in various style lately, and here they are, my December noodle collection, lol!
The other day, I watched Rowan Atkinson’s “Mr. Bean’s Holiday”, and this song “La Mer” of Chalres Trénet brought me to life again. "La Mer" is one of the most famous songs of Charles Trénet, and made a huge success when it was released in 1954. Today it is considered as a classic French song.
La Mer
La mer Qu'on voit danser
Le long des golfes clairs
A des reflets d'argent
La mer Des reflets changeants
Sous la pluie
La mer Au ciel d'été confond
Ses blancs moutons
Avec les anges si purs
La mer bergère d'azur Infinie
Voyez Près des étangs
Ces grands roseaux mouillés
Voyez Ces oiseaux blancs
Et ces maisons rouillées
La mer Les a bercés
Le long des golfes clairs
Et d'une chanson d'amour
La mer A bercé mon cœur pour la vie

After enjoying the spectacular show of Symphony of Lights @ East Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront promenade @ night, we decided to take a look at what it is like to be there in daytime. Well, it still offers the best view of Hong Kong Island and can get a clear look at the Avenue of Stars, honoring the celebrities along with those who put together behind the scene.
I miss my family more than anyone could imagine this time of the year, not that I believe in Santa, but that this is the time I had much fun with my family. Back home in Yangon, I am sure my brother and sisters will get together to celebrate my youngest sister’s birthday, doing good deeds in the morning and drink a toast to her in the evening.
More than a decade ago, my mom went into labor this very day and gave birth a cute little baby. As most husbands do, my father was outside the labor room; anxiously waiting for the news. The following conversation took place an hour later when a nurse came out and informed him about the newly born.
“Your wife has just given birth a baby.”
“Thank you, a boy or a girl.”
“I don’t know, I just know it is a baby. Anyway, I will check again and let you know.”
Later that night we all knew about the baby girl and since then she has been with us, and stuck together through thick and thin. I just let my family knows that my heart and soul are with them today and wish my little sis “A very Happy Birthday and many happy returns of this day”.
Christmas and New Year is almost here, but we have no idea where to go until now. I tried to persuade my other half that killing those times in Bangkok are not that bad, seeing that we have got to see the decorations @ various malls, and witness the seasonal beer gardens from November until New Year night. Don’t get confused by my choice of word, “Seasonal Beer Garden”, I don’t actually know how to call them. Every year from early November to the New Year’s Eve night in Bangkok, there are seasonal beer stations in different malls, operating every night (except some holidays) with the performance by various groovy bands. I am not sure about the countdowns stage in front of Central World like previous years. This time of the year, most people dress up intentionally just to take a beautiful picture with the amazing backgrounds, and of course shop around. Speaking of shopping, MNG started year-end sales since 18th December and so does CHAPS. The following are the snapshots of a few places in Bangkok and hope you get the brief ideas about what is like in Bangkok during these days.
The spectacular “Symphony of Lights”, organized by the Tourism Commission, is definitely one of the must-see events in Hong Kong, with colored lights, and laser beams synchronized to music. The show starts at 8 p.m. every night, except for some emergencies such as Cyclone Warning, etc. Too bad I couldn’t understand any words in Chinese narration but I enjoyed every seconds of the show. Getting there is very easy, just alight @ MTR East Tsim Sha Tsui Station, look for the Exit J, and follow the signs to Avenue of Stars.
If you love eating at fancy restaurants or hitting the bars after that, SoHo might be the perfect place in Hong Kong, where you will see various international restaurants and bars. Some people might laugh at me if they know about the fact that I intentionally went to see the largest outdoor covered escalator system, that is “The Central-Mid-Levels Escalators”, which link Central and Western District on Hong Kong Island. Anyway, I had a chance to see the nightlife @ SoHo, and felt I am a bit too old for that kind of stuffs, LOL!
Another attraction with an incredible view in Hong Kong would be “The Peak”. We went there at night, as we wanted to see the spectacular night view of city skyline. Walking from Central station to the Peak Tram Terminus can be tricky, but fortunately for us, most Hong Kong residents are friendly and always willing to help, and give directions. The peak tram ride and looking down from the peak to the fabulous view of the city was memorable. The only inconvenience was a very long queue for the tram to the city: it was cold, windy, and we had to wait nearly two hours. So much for dinner @ local joint (dumplings, noodles, etc), and we ended up eating @ MacDonald that night.
