My Garden Restaurant - shooting

I couldn’t help feeling sorry for those friends who visit my blog from time to time. The reasons are quite obvious: all the posts are just personal and barely entertaining not to mention informative, inspirational, etc. Thus I really want to thank everyone for kind visits and here comes another ordinary post. I noticed a shooting outside My Garden Restaurant while I was sitting and taking pictures of my drink. Since my curiosity superseded my hunger, one minute I was waiting for my food and the next I was in the middle of shooting. I waited until they finished taking the specific scene and asked permission to take a few pictures. As I told my fried before, I am “no great shakes” blogger and not surprisingly, I have no idea who is the director, and the title of the movie. But it wouldn’t hurt anyone by posting those pictures in my blog, well, let’s hope so, eh? 

พุ่มพวง ดวงจันทร์ or The Moon

My dear friend Paja is a fan of late Amy Winehouse for not only her songs but also for the infamous beehive and full eye makeup. She must have heard the news about her favorite singer death by now and saddened the loss of gifted musician. Well I really feel for her especially after watching this particular Thai movie, namely” พุ่มพวง or The Moon”, subtitled in English of course. It is about the life of Thai megastar พุ่มพวง ดวงจันทร์ Pumpuang Duangjan, nickname ผึ้ง (bee), who passed away in 1992 at the age of 31. She was an ordinary girl, grew up in the sugar cane filed in Suphanburi, one of the central provinces in Thailand. Would you believe that she can’t read and yet she learns by heart and can sing almost 100 songs by the age of 12? The illiteracy hasn’t hindered her a bit while trying to be successful in life. Her personal life tells another story: a life of Tears and Sorrow. She has been called “ราชินีลูกทุ่ง” the Queen of Thai Country music (เพลงลูกทุ่ง), music reflecting everyday life of the rural poor and is considered as Thailand’s most famous and loved singer. She died from a non-contagious auto-immune disease and her funeral was held first in Bangkok , then in Wat Tapkradan, Suphanburi province. According to Wiki “an estimated 200,000 people turned up to pay their last respects, even the Thai King himself, Bhumibol Adulyadej came to pay his respects; for a peasant-born woman this was unheard of and has not been repeated”.  I know we all have to die eventually but I still wish both stars lived long enough to tell a tale of their lives. 

My Garden Restaurant - day

When it comes to food in Yangon, it is always very easy. I just need to stick with what I want to eat, what my friends suggest, and that’s where My Garden Restaurant comes in again. Yes, I went there a few days later to have lunch thanks to my hubby’s friends and we had a great time too. Since I don’t have to pay a cent, I don’t know whether the servings are generous or not but I’d still recommend stir-fried sweet and sour shrimp, and spicy vegetables salad among other delicious food. We all love the crispy deep-fried eel, crispy deep-fried soft shell crab, and crispy deep-fried fish from fish and chips.  May be I am a little too in love with the deep-fried food, however, some people might consider those food as unhealthy and aren’t that great either. All in all, it depends on our own perception on food and taste buds, isn’t it? Decoration is not bad at all, clean, comfortable and does create a nice ambiance in daytime.

My Garden Restaurant - night

During my trip in Yangon, I had a chance to eat at My Garden Restaurant, a new restaurant in front of Summit Parkview Hotel. It serves both Chinese and Western Food and opens from 10:00 am to 11:00 pm. Normally I enjoy dinning with solo show at the café but that night, the chats overpower the music and almost spoils the fun. Price? I don’t know whether the restaurant is expensive or not but the food are delicious especially seafood salad. I was amazed by the beauty of young mademoiselles from other table (not in picture) but at the same time felt sorry for other young misses who have to introduce new alcoholic beverages to customers. The waiters were courteous and overall it was a very relaxing evening and I would certainly go there next time I am in my home town.

Songzanlin Monastery, Shangri-La

It was such a great morning as I had a chance to eat my favorite food, well, a noodle soup with fried dough (in picture) and coffee. I couldn’t ask for more food after such a big breakfast, which I still miss by the way, from a shop near the inn we were staying at Shangri-la (Yunnan province).  Our little jaunt started just after our stylish guide came to pick us up at the breakfast joint. Actually, I didn’t expect to see the mountain top village to be that beautiful.  If you ever happen to be in Shangri-la in Yunnan province, 300 years old Songzanlin Monastery, situated in the high altitude region over 3,300 meters, is a must-see sight. I would say the best time to visit there is either spring or summer: we went there in one rainy season and it was very cold, wet, and thus very difficult to take pictures, lol!!! 

See Fah

It all started 70 years ago where a Chinese man came here to work and later co-founded the restaurant. Another branch has been opened at Wang Burapha 45 years ago and Siam branch was opened 8 years later. Currently “สีฟ้า - See Fah” has 19 branches in Bangkok, and to be specific, we can enjoy those delectable food at the following places: Siam, Rajdamri, Thaniya, Phahoyothin 37, Major Ratchayothin, Thonglor, Fashion Island, Rama 4 Lotus, Rama 3 Lotus, Prachacheun Lotus, Bangpakok Lotus, Lat Phrao Lotus, Future Park Rangsit, Central World, Esplanade Ratchada, Esplanade Ngamwongwan-Kheerai, Sririraj, The Circle Rajchapreuk, and Ramathibodi Hospital.

It offers a variety of Chinese and Thai food with a reasonable price, peaceful ambiance, and more importantly they are delicious. Wait for it, they have delivery in certain areas such as Rajdamri, Thonglor, Thaniya, Pahoyothin 37 and Sririraj. The number you need to dial for delivery is  02-800-8080. Of course, we have to order food for at least 150 Bahts and pay 30 Bahts for delivery or get free delivery if the food costs more than 600 Bahts. Time? From 10:00-21:00, we need to order 45-60 minutes in advance and can pay only cash. We went to Central World branch a few times and if you ask me, I love all the dishes.
