Rather than stir-frying the okra with mixed spices as I always do, I
have decided to fry them in batter this time. May be it has something to do
with all the vegetables tempura from the other blog or may be it’s just that I
love okra in any edible form. Okra, tempura flour, paprika, knorr seasoning and
salt are all I need for my okra tempura. The recipe here is not designed to
show off any cooking skill and thus why I did it anyway. Combine the tempura
flour with water in a bowl and mix them gently. Add paprika for a bit of color,
knorr seasoning to taste and add the okra to the batter to batches. Heat the
oil and fry them until golden brown, sprinkle with salt and serve hot with the
sauce of your choice. If you are not an okra fanatic like me, I am sorry to
disappoint you with my measly okra tempura.

Sugar Peas Salad
The most common way to eat sugar peas for
me is the sautéed one. This morning, I was thinking that sugar peas could be
eaten like long bean salad, four-winged bean salad like we usually eat and the salad turned out
to be equally delicious!!!! The usual ingredients for the salad are as
follow: sliced garlic (optional), thinly
sliced shallots, fresh lime juice, salt or fish sauce, sliced chili (optional),
roasted sesame seeds, ground dried shrimp, ground bean powder and peanut oil. I
forgot to add the crushed roasted peanuts, yes, it is me, the usual
absentminded individual! I started by adding the boiled water to ends trimmed
sugar peas, drained them after a few minutes and refreshed them in a bowl of
cold water. Later, sliced the sugar peas as the length I wanted to eat and tossed them
together with the ingredients mentioned above. Then, sprinkle the fried shallots on top of the salad just
before serving. This is a superb simply yet tasty sugar peas salad and I hope
you all love my mere salad too!!!

ASIATIQUE The Riverfront
Am I really ready to shop anywhere? “Yes” is the correct answer since
the question comes from no-brainer like myself. That being admitted, I would like to share one new open-air
mall with Chao Phraya river views, namely, ASIATIQUE The Riverfront,
which I have visited yesterday. Going there is quite easy: from BTS Saphan
Taksin station, I took free shuttle boat from the Sheraton Pier provided by the
mall starting from 5 p.m. The mall itself is situated on Chareonkrung Road and
we can expereice shopping, dining, and architecture at the same place, the old
port of the East Asiatique Company, from 5 pm to midnight. However, most of the
shops are still in work in progress stage and the best part of it, I might have
to go there again to enjoy newest shopping experience.

Fried Roselle Leaves
I am not a warrior in the kitchen, and I haven’t got tricks up on my
sleeves when it comes to cooking. That being said, I would love to share my
favorite fried roselle leaves, the dish that I have been busy making this
morning. I might not be eating so well due to the amount of oil I put in the
dish, but it is still delicious and very appetizing.
I used one pack of cooked and frozen roselle leaves, which I brought from home,
prepared by my dear mother-in-law. All the hard work I supposedly do might be chopping the onion,
garlic, a bit of ginger, and shredding the bamboo shoot. I guess everyone knows
how to cook fried roselle leaves but I will write it anyway: first, heat the oil
in a frying pan, add chopped garlic, ginger, onion, turmeric power, and chili
powder and stir until become golden brown. Then add the cooked roselle leaves (in
my case) and chili, stir well, and when cooked, I set them aside.
Shrimp are
also stir-fried and set aside.
Now it is time for the bamboo shoot to cook: add
oil, chopped garlic, onion and bamboo shoot, and stir-fried them until cooked.
Seasoning? I use shrimp paste, salt, knorr seasoning and fish sauce. After
everything is cooked, it is time to mix them all, garnish them with coriander
and voilà, I have one of my favorite dishes of all time, fried roselle
leaves with bamboo shoot and shrimp!

Mega Bangna
What I am supposed to do when I see the advertisement of the new
shopping mall in the town? It is the time of the days when I am not in a mood
for doing anything special and all of the sudden, wandering around the new mall
seems to be a great idea. With that in mind, me and my other half decided to go
to MEGA BANGA yesterday. Getting there was quite easy; we just took BTS, and
got off at the Udomsuk sation (Exit 5) and waited the shuttle bus to pick us
up. It took about 20 minutes to arrive to the mall due to traffic, but the
spacious mall made us happy with everything it has to offer, like food,
wellness, banking, sport, etc.
Shuttle Bus to/from BTS Udomsuk |
While enjoy sightseeing the furniture from IKEA Bagna, I did have a
blast and overly missed my dear friend AiR, who particularly loves to decorate
home. Anyway, the giant mall comes in handy to hang out for hours with/without
spending money. In my case, we spent only for food @ S&P, which offers 20%
discount for dine-in customers. The dessert and coffee are the ones I really
liked and the dishes did not impress in the flavor. I don’t blame for that and
at least, they still make a dish look appetizing and offer us a decent place to
eat. A cup of coffee and a few snapshots really make me happy and that’s all I
wish for everyday!!!
